Jackie Brighton
Skin Cancer Nurse Specialist
I am an NMC registered nurse of 24 years, having graduated from Thames Valley University in 2000. Over the years I have worked as a nurse in both NHS and private healthcare settings (Secondary and Primary care) including dermatology, oncology and research.
Over the last 11 years I have worked as a specialist nurse for skin cancer and currently work at Consultant Nurse level. I gained my Independent and Supplementary prescribing qualification at The University of Nottingham in 2017 and I am a qualified and proficient skin surgeon following completion of training at Masters level at Hertfordshire University in 2019. Having studied Skin Cancer management and clinical examination at The University of Bradford, and Cancer Care at New Bucks University, I have developed my practice in skin cancer nursing, offering patients skin lesion examination, mole checks, and aftercare and surveillance following a skin cancer diagnosis. Part of my skin cancer role has included being skin cancer Multi-Disciplinary Team lead for two years. I have also stood on the Skin Cancer Committee for the British Dermatology Nursing Group in 2024, helping to develop guidelines for specialist nurses with an interest in skin cancer. I am currently looking forward to embarking on research in the coming months as co-investigator for a skin cancer clinical trial.
When I am not working, I enjoy being with my family, taking walks with our dog. Although I like being in the garden, I am far from being called green fingered! I find this an effective way to relax and unwind from daily pressures, providing the weather is dry of course!
