Providing cutting edge facilities for leading surgeons
We partner with the very best surgeons that are looking for a new and exciting environment in which to carry out their procedures.
A Message from Our Founders
Our priorities are to provide safe and effective patient care, a first class experience for patients, an incredible service to partner clinicians and a working environment in which every member of staff feels valued and has the opportunity to thrive. Our core value is enabling confidence.
That is:
- The patient's confidence in their body and self through their clinical outcomes, in the hospital environment within which they are treated and in the staff who care for them.
- The staff’s confidence in the duties they deliver, the care they provide, the equipment they use and the management that structures their working environment.
- The surgeon's confidence in our entire hospital environment within which they can deliver excellent care to their patients. We are here to be your partner in private practice for the long-term, to support your growth and development, and to provide a great service at a fair price.
We are confident that we can do great work in an environment that we all want to work in. We do what we are passionate about, what we do best and what achieves the most. We believe that patients should receive not just great healthcare, but also a high level service, and that our hospital should be a positive reflection of your practice and brand. And we are confident that we will deliver this in an inclusive, ethical, responsible and sustainable manner. It is all about creating confidence.

Fair Pricing
Our founders include surgeons like you, who have been frustrated by dramatic and often hard-to-justify increases in facility fees in recent times, particularly for specialities such as ours. We want to provide surgeons with a solution for this. We aim to provide an aspirational high-end environment with fair prices. We know that there are technical differences for each and every surgery which come with time differences, and we reflect this in the prices we offer for the use of our space - rest assured that the price you are quoted has been tailored to each case by people who understand the procedure you are recommending.
Our Quality Commitment
Our founders include surgeons just like you. Over years of practise in mainstream private hospitals, they have been frustrated by the lack of response by hospital management to patient feedback, with opportunities to improve service being missed. We are deeply committed to providing exceptional service at our facility, with responsive management and a strong focus on patient satisfaction. Our goal is to create a positive experience from the moment patients contact us until well after they have left our care. We also prioritise supporting our surgeons in performing their duties efficiently and effectively, with all the necessary assistance.
We understand the challenges of working in a hospital environment with staff who may be unfamiliar with the intricacies of body-altering surgery. Our team is entirely dedicated to this field, and our management truly comprehends every aspect of the practice. We take pride in our close-knit team, and each member strives to be the best they can be. By valuing feedback from both patients and surgeons, we continuously prioritise improvements. If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of our services, please feel free to contact us using the form below.

FAQs

In order to partner with us and work within our premises, surgeons must apply for practicing privileges with us. During this process, we will check your qualifications and your experience. We will also check your right to work in the UK and other regulatory checks. This process will also entail a meeting with us which can either be held remotely or in person. We can show you around our beautiful hospital and discuss the services and equipment will provide you with. In some circumstances, we can also be willing to fund and approve equipment needed. We know firsthand how frustrating it can be when it comes to equipment availability and this is something we ensure is smooth sailing here. Within our meeting, we will also discuss all other requirements you have. We can discharge patients on your behalf and we can provide nursing and woundare. We can provide additional services if you need them such as booking assistance, secretary and admin management. Alternatively, your own secretary is very welcome to work with our team. You are able to book regular lists and sessions with us as well as ad-hoc sessions. We do ask you to ensure you have arrangements for a follow-up appointment ahead of time, and cross-cover. If you are unavailable, you must have another surgeon we can contact on your behalf.
-
Most of our partnered surgeons choose to work with us on a regular basis but you can absolutely book our hospital space and services for a one off appointment. You will need to follow the same process as above to check your eligibility. Once you are registered you will be able to book the space for your upcoming procedure.
-
You will be able to get in touch directly with our management team to let us know your complaint. We will investigate the complaint and we may want to speak to you to do so. We will come up with an action plan to ensure all is sorted and the issue does not arise again.
-
Yes, you can, but the anaesthetist also has to be checked for practicing privileges. Alternatively, we can provide an anaesthetist. You can also also bring a surgical assistant or nurse assistant, but they must go through a similar eligibility process too.
-
We can provide secretarial services if you need them such as booking assistance, communication and other admin management. We are wholly dedicated to this work and our management team truly understand the ins and outs of this practice from top to bottom and this is something we take pride in.

When a revision is required due to a medical necessity such as an infection, revisions are always covered due to our duty of care — with no cost to either the patient or the surgeon. If a revision is required due to reasonable aesthetic dissatisfaction within 12 months, we allow free revisions and we will waive our fee. However, if this happens regularly for a surgeon, we may have to change the scope of surgery available for you or you may have to change your revision policy. Additionally, in terms of aesthetic satisfaction, results change over time and this must be discussed and outlined before with the patient. If dissatisfaction is not a failure of the surgery and is a reasonable expected outcome, free revision should not be offered.
Collaboration, Assistance and Mentorship at Berkshire Grove
Collaborative working between surgeons can extend skill sets, reduce fatigue, enhance decision-making and broaden perspectives. It is good for surgeons and good for patients, and we actively encourage it.
Surgeons report that the biggest disincentive to private practice is professional isolation. They enjoy the social moments of a busy NHS environment, training (and being trained) and bouncing ideas off colleagues. So why doesn't collaborative working happen more often in the private setting? We believe this is because surgeons get bogged down with the nitty gritty of making it happen. Who gets paid what? Who's in charge? How do we coordinate our diaries? What are the indemnity arrangements? Will the hospital agree to it?
It does not have to be this way. At Berkshire Grove Hospital, we actively facilitate collaborative working, if you want us to.
In your practising privileges application, you will notice there are options both to host other surgeons with practising privileges in your lists ("Host Surgeons"), and to join others in their operating lists ("Guest Surgeons"). We encourage you to respond positively to both options, however many years of private practice experience you may have. If you do, we will approach you to be a Host or Guest Surgeon whenever we identify a match.
You do not have to participate in this to work with us. You can choose to treat the Hospital like any other private institution you have worked at. We hope that you will have a superlative experience nonetheless. But we are confident that you will see great benefits through collaboration — a positive shift in your enjoyment of private practice and your performance within it — if you take advantage of the options for collaborative working available here.
Collaboration, Assistance and Mentorship FAQs
-
There is no fee to participate in the scheme. You can simply indicate your willingness to participate as a Host, Guest or both.
-
This varies on a case-by-case basis. You are able to set your own fees, of what you are either prepared to pay or wish to be paid, to act as a Guest or Host. For example, a surgeon performing a long case may be prepared to pay a Guest Surgeon to assist, to reduce operative time and fatigue. Alternatively a Guest surgeon might be prepared to pay a Host surgeon to gain more exposure to a particular procedure. A Host Surgeon with particular expertise might only accept a Guest for a fee. Other Guests or Hosts may simply enjoy collaborating with colleagues and waive all fees. This can be set on a case-by-case basis, so you might waive your fees to be a Guest for a case that is outside your usual experience, but ask a fee to be involved in other cases. We will only link you up with another surgeon if your preset parameters match.
-
Hosts can share their experience and pool ideas with a colleague. They can also be assisted by their Guest surgeon and share the workload. Guests are able to attain exposure to procedures they may not have seen much of, without attending time consuming symposia. Surgeons may also be a Guest to smooth out peaks and troughs in their private workload and income. Both Guests and Hosts can extend their professional networks. Most of all, it means that private practice need not be a one-person show.
-
Yes, the patient must agree to the arrangement - it is the Host's responsibility to arrange this. You may have experienced from other assistant arrangements in the past that patients do not usually have a problem, and often expect, other surgeons to be present at or contribute to their surgery, but it is important to be explicit and transparent about this.
-
Yes. It is usually the other way round, with the Guest surgeon paid to attend and assist, but in some cases the Host's expertise may be sufficiently in demand that they can attract a fee to have a Guest present.
-
Yes - this is probably one of the main benefits to the Guest surgeon. A surgeon with insufficient evidence of experience of a procedure may use attendance with a Host surgeon to build their portfolio and extend their scope of practice. Sole responsibility for patient care remains with the Host surgeon, so there is no need for procedure-specific expertise on the part of the Guest. We also envisage surgeons acting as Guests for procedures already within their usual scope of practice. It is good to be reminded from time to time that there is more than one way to do things, and a breadth of experience can only be good, for all surgeons.
-
Yes, but the Host Surgeon remains responsible and therefore in charge throughout the procedure, so they must satisfy themselves that the Guest is able to perform whatever task is given to them and maintain an appropriate level of supervision throughout. At least until you know the other surgeon well, the Host Surgeon should make the worst-case presumption that, even with a Guest, they will be performing the case unassisted and plan accordingly.
-
All Guests Surgeons are independent Consultant Surgeons in their own right, just like you, so it is unlikely that this would be the case. However it is prudent to plan for a worst-case scenario of a passive bystander, at least until you know your Guest Surgeon better. There is no real recourse for a less-than-helpful Guest Surgeon, except for feeding back constructively and/or declining to accept them the next time.
Although unlikely, if a Guest Surgeon is an impediment rather than simply unhelpful, then patient care and safety remain paramount and the surgeon should be asked to leave. The issues should then be fed back to the Hospital.
-
You should make your indemnifier aware that you are planning either to be assisted or to have an assistant during surgery, if you do not already have such an arrangement in place. There would typically be no adjustment or a trivial adjustment in your premium as a consequence of this. The Hospital does not accept consequential liability arising either from this arrangement or from any failure to fulfil it, such as a cancellation by either surgeon. The Hospital's role is to match willing partners for their mutual benefit and for that of the patient.
-
If two surgeons' parameters for acting as a Host and Guest match (in terms of availability, procedure types and cost), we make first contact with the Host and invite them to accept or decline the matched Guest (or choose from their matches if there is more than one). If they accept, we notify the Guest and confirm the arrangements for both parties. Guest Surgeons who are not selected for a particular procedure are not informed.
-
A Guest Surgeon has been awarded practising privileges at The Hospital and has therefore successfully satisfied the requirements of application and the maintenance of practising privileges. A Surgical Assistant has not. A Surgical Assistant may, for instance, be a Specialty Registrar undergoing higher surgical training who wishes to attend the hospital for their own training purposes under the supervision of a Host Surgeon. There is a separate mandatory application process for Surgical Assistants.
