Also known as: Forehead Reduction, Foreheadplasty, Hairline Lowering Surgery

What To Expect With Hairline Advancement
Hospital stay: 0 nights, Surgery time: 1-2 hours, Anaesthetic: Local with sedation or General
The surgeon creates an incision along the existing hairline or slightly behind it, depending on the patient's anatomy. The skin and underlying tissues are carefully dissected to expose the forehead area. The surgeon then removes a strip of scalp tissue above the incision and advances the remaining scalp forward to lower the hairline, removing any excess skin.
In some cases, tissue expanders may be used prior to surgery to stretch the scalp and create additional laxity, facilitating a more significant advancement of the hairline.
Hairline Advancement Recovery
Patients may experience mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the forehead and scalp area, which can be managed with pain medication and cold compresses. Strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks following surgery to minimise the risk of complications and promote proper healing. Patients may need to modify their hair care routine during the initial healing period to avoid excessive tension on the scalp incision. The sutures will be removed 1-2 weeks after the surgery, however it may take several months for the full results of the hairline advancement procedure to become apparent as hair grows back and the scalp heals.
Hairline Advancement Risks
Proper surgical technique and post-operative care can minimise the risk of visible scarring, but some degree of scarring is inevitable. Temporary numbness or altered sensation in the scalp may occur but typically resolves over time. In some cases, the hairline may appear uneven or irregular following surgery, requiring additional corrective procedures.
