Chin & Cheek Reshaping

Chin and cheek reshaping, also called chin surgery, mentoplasty, or genioplasty, are surgical procedures to increase or decrease the size of the chin or cheeks.

Also known as: Chin Surgery, Mentoplasty, Genioplasty, Chin Implant, Chin Augmentation, Chin Reduction, Cheek Augmentation, Cheek Implants

This procedure is typically done to enhance certain facial features such as cheekbones, or to bring a certain aspect of the face, usually the chin into proportion with the rest of the face. A protruding chin can be reduced by removing some of the chin bone and a recessive chin can be built out through the use of an implant. Flat cheekbones can also be enhanced by inserting implants.

It is important to note that your chin positioning may be in relation to your teeth, which may require a different type of surgery on your jaw.

Payment plans are available for the booking of all surgical procedures. For more information click here.

What To Expect With Chin & Cheek Reshaping

Hospital stay: Usually an outpatient procedure, Surgery time: 1 - 2 hours, Anaesthetic: General

Chin and Cheek Reshaping incorporates a range of surgical procedures that alter the shape or size of certain facial features, usually to create facial harmony and symmetry of the features. This can involve the use of implants to build out features of the face such as the cheek bones or chin, or the removal of some of the chin bone to reduce its size.

Chin & Cheek Reshaping Recovery

You may experience a moderate amount of pain for the first two days, especially inside your mouth where the stitches will lie. After chin reshaping, you may need to wear a supportive strap for the first few days. The most important thing to do is to avoid movement to the area and to keep your mouth clean. We advise you to use mouthwash after each meal whilst your stitches are still in place. Take extra care whilst brushing your teeth. We also advise you to take a week off work to enable you to rest and recover properly.

Chin & Cheek Reshaping Risks

Chin and cheek reshaping procedures are commonly performed and more cases than not, are very successful. Complications are very rare however, occasionally infection may occur which will cause pain and swelling. It may be necessary to remove the implant if so, but can be replaced once the infection has healed. There is also a small risk of the implant moving out of place which would require another operation to reposition it. Before your procedure you will have a consultation with your surgeon during which you can discuss any concerns you may have.
